South Sister and Broken Top

This year's Fourth of July backpacking trip was backed up a couple weeks so Jacob could join us!  With Jacob now 600 miles away in Salt Lake, there are times when I miss my brother quite a bit.  After all, all my best memories are from spending time in the mountains with him and my parents!  So, it was great that Jacob came to visit and even better that we were able to do the backpacking trip together.

We camped at Devil's Lake Trailhead the night before to get an early start.  The first day we headed up to Moraine Lake, pitched the tent a little ways above the lake, and climbed South Sister.

On the second day, we dropped into Green Lakes, left the packs behind, and climbed Broken Top.  After descending Broken Top, we grabbed the packs, and headed out.

We had relatively clear skies which gave us great views of the Cascade volcanoes.  It was nice to see a bit more snow on the peaks this year.

We did run into some bugs near Moraine Lake and Green Lakes.  Fortunately they weren't bad.
